Count Me In! Artist of the Day is... Esther Marie Caponigro

About the Artist

A native of Long Island, Esther Marie actively exhibits in many art gallery shows, auctions and events both nationally and internationally. In 2010 she showed her work in South Korea. Esther Marie works for clients in New York City and across the country. She was awarded a fellowship and hand selected for a renowned art residency at The Chautauqua Institution in upstate New York as well as a full scholarship to the Vermont Studio Center.

She also participated in a Rotary International Exchange for a month where she learned about the local culture. Besides being immersed into the culture, she was introduced to native artists, viewed their art and created several different art pieces using local traditional art techniques. Esther Marie's paintings are in several private as well as permanent collections. She mostly concentrates on Plein Aire and abstract painting. Esther Marie continues exhibiting at numerous art galleries in the Northeast United States. She was also awarded “Best in Show” at the Northport Plein Aire event. In perhaps her best achievement yet, she was chosen to be in the exclusive Heckscher Museum of Art Long Island Biennial.

From 2005-2009 Esther Marie was asked to be an Artist in Residency at Ships' Hole Farm in Smithtown, NY. This brought her into a collaborative art project with the patron's daughter. Esther Marie was commissioned to create a number of impressionist oil paintings from her photographs. At that time, she started collaborating with other Long Island artists. From combining her love of the land and people, she invited several artists to document the landscape. Her love for combining paintings with poetry was also formed. She is one of the founders of the MUSE poetry circuit that has been in operation for over a decade.

Esther Marie’s work has been exhibited widely — at The Heckscher Art Museum, the Long Island Museum, Islip Art Museum, Gallery North in Setauket to name a few.

Her art has appeared in The Times Beacon, New York Newsday and she has had numerous interviews broadcasted on Long Island Fios TV show Push Pause.

Aside from painting, Esther Marie enjoys teaching art, yoga, meditation, dancing, poetry and chess. Esther Marie lives and works as an art instructor and adjunct professor on Long Island, New York.

Besides working at the Art League of Long Island for several years, Esther Marie teaches at the Studio at Gallery North, the Art Guild and the Grant Campus of Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood. Currently, she teaches watercolor classes online via Zoom. Her next class starts July 15th at the Studio at Gallery North.
