Count Me In! Artist of the Day is... Howard Pohl

About the Artist

All of my gallery work is analogue in nature, taken on black & white film and printed in my home darkroom of 35 years. When most of the world went digital, I stayed behind to capture the blacks, whites and grays. As a result, my imagery attempts to grasp texture, light, and contrast rather than dynamic color.

I travel to various locales on Long Island, often on a random basis, and try to make art by photographing objects, people, or landscapes in an artistic manner. In 2015, a friend convinced me to show my work and since then, my work has appeared in 18 galleries from the Art League of Long Island to Arizona.

"You'll Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine"

Silver Gelatin Print, framed dimensions: 18"h x 23"w

The photo You'll Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine (from the Bob Dylan song of the same name) was taken at Tanner Park in Copiague on a warm day. I noted the opposing but complimentary directions of the man and the tree and had the luck to catch the bird flying overhead. It was taken on Ilford Delta film and printed on Ilford Multigrade Fibre Based Cooltone Variable Contrast Paper.
